Our lives are filled with breathtaking images of earth’s beauty, from the highest mountaintops to the depths of our oceans.
We fill our Facebook pages and emails with arresting photos, yet sometimes miss the exquisite beauty literally in front of our faces.
Yesterday, busy with a work assignment, the photographer captured what the writer missed — a single, perfect rose in a lavish California landscape.
I’m grateful for this photographer, my husband, and for his gift. I’m grateful for photographers everywhere whose curiosity takes them places most of us only imagine.
I’m grateful for the beauty of this earth, large and small.

I’m also grateful for nature and the photographers who appreciate the beauty of our earth. Jason and I work hard everyday to stay connected despite the countless kilometres that often separate us. Every time either of us finds a breathaking photo from a faraway, or not so faraway place, we send it instantly to each other from our cell phones. “There’s an app for that!”
Sometimes it’s difficult to find new topics to talk about when all you have is the phone and 20 minutes / day. So, we talk about the pictures we’ve emailed each other and we dream about visiting those places together.
When he has time, Jason takes incredible photos of whatever he can find on his days off. Those too help me stay connected to him, even though he’s in another country.
I also take pictures of my day. Today I sent him images of bright red peppers, huge orange pumpkins and deep purple eggplants at our local farmer’s market. I’m sure sometimes the pictures make him feel homesick but I like to think I’m keeping him included in home. I try to let him know that he’s always, always with me.
Thank you for this post.
