I worked hard to become a successful journalist, and learned to be self-absorbed.
At the peak of my career, I worked in countries with great poverty, and tried to be a selfless witness.
And then I covered war.
I left journalism, and became a rehabilitation counselor, working with veterans.
I prayed for humility every day.
