America started this week with the powerful message of the late Martin Luther King Jr., who advised us there was no better calling than community service.
His community was worldwide.
In my small corner of the world, I’m inspired more and more by this man who was murdered when I was a child, and I’m ever-grateful for his message of hope, against all obstacles.
Reading his biography this week, and serving in my community, I am struck by the one thing Americans could do to feel better about themselves and their country.
Volunteer.
Life in 5 lines or less© is here Saturdays, reflecting on the state of America.

I couldn’t do my job without my volunteers. When I was new to the position it was my warm and welcoming volunteers that taught me the most.
Thanks for sharing your experiences with volunteers, Lisa. I’m grateful just to read your praise of them.
